Walk With Me

Walk With Me was developed by Knick Knack Game Shack during my final year at Brock University (2020).

Walk With Me is a two player asymmetric co-op game. One character - the Lost Soul - solves puzzles to progress the pair through the game. The other character - the Reaper - engages in hack-and-slash combat to defend them from the denizens of the environment they’re traversing.

I served as the lead designer on the project, coordinating the design efforts to keep things cohesive and in line with the expectations of the creative director and the executive team, while considering the effect of all decisions on the experience of the end user.

The team was scheduled to appear with the game at GD Launch 2020 (Niagara College’s in house showcase) and at Level Up Toronto 2020. Unfortunately these events were cancelled due the to COVID-19 pandemic.

Unfortunately, development was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. The team really just didn’t have the energy to transition the project to remote work properly while transitioning the rest of our last semester of school as well.

For any who is interested in trying the game out in it’s unfinished state, it is available here. The game is ideally played with two players holding one half of an Windows/X-Box controller each, but it will also work with two controllers, or a keyboard (it’s really not a great experience on keyboard, mostly just for emergencies). Being unfinished as it is, the graphical optimization is really quite subpar, be prepared for some visual problems and lag.
